Losing their loved ones, survivors of suicide loss make posthumous arrangements for the deceased even as they are overwhelmed by grief. Suffering from disparate levels of emotional problems, survivors feel perplexed, and find it hard to express their feelings. Moreover, due to traditional Chinese taboos, survivors fail to get emotional sustenance from others and find closure.
In January 2008, “Project BLESS – Services for Survivors of Suicide Loss” was launched to provide professional bereavement counseling support services for survivors. Starting from April 2014, we together with three local public mortuaries, initiated a pilot scheme to refer survivors of suicide loss. This enables us to reach out to bereaved families at an early stage and provide them with timely and professional bereavement services. We hope we can thus support survivors on their healing journey, filling their lives with love.
”Project BLESS” received Community Touch Award in 2015 Best Practice Awards in Social Service, organised by the Hong Kong Council of Social Services. This award recognises the keen response of society to our service, as well as our contribution and our cooperation with other professional sectors in Hong Kong's social service development. In April 2017, we are grateful to Hong Kong Community Chest for their support in sponsoring “Project BLESS” to provide services for survivors of suicide loss.
Heartfelt thanks to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for the funding support starting from September 2022. The project is renamed to ”Jockey Club Project BLESS” and continue to provide services for the survivors of suicide and sudden death loss.
