You and me could prevent Suicide. To promote suicide prevention, SPS is organizing community educational activities on a regular base, e.g. exhibitions, talks, carnivals as well as producing pamphlets and leaflets for promotion.

Why people choose to commit suicide?
- Mental illness, e.g. depression
- Personality or psychological factor
- Drug and alcohol abuse
- Serious illness
- Life pressure, e.g. personal finance, work
- Past history of attempting suicide
- Family history of attempting suicide
- Feeling desperate
- Impulse
Signs & Symptoms of Suicide :
Researches point out that 80% of the suicidal people will have signs & symptoms before committing suicide. These include cognitive, emotional, behavioural and physical signs such as:
- Change of characters and mood swing
- Weight Loss, insomnia, physical fatigue
- Verbal expression of their intention about suicide
- Isolation or socially withdrawn. Loss of interest in the things that used to be
- Send out their favourite items to others
You Can Help to Prevent Suicide :
- Show care and concern, listen in a patient and non-judgmental manner
- Understand and accept their feelings (esp. helplessness, hopelessness & loneliness)
- Keep away all kinds of weapons from them
- Arrange continuous contacts or visits with their permission, do not leave them alone if possible
- Seek help from hotlines, social service agencies & professionals, explore the social support for them
- Be SPS volunteers or donors
