Suicide Prevention Services (SPS) was founded in 1995, providing Befriending service to people who are suicidal, in despair or emotional distress.
Looking back, I witnessed the transformation of SPS from a traditional Samaritan hotline centre with a few volunteers to become a suicide prevention service agency with over 350 trained volunteers, providing a wide spectrum of services for despairing and suicidal people of all ages in Hong Kong.
One significant change is in the service demand. In 1997, our hotline service has handled 12,982 calls; but in the year of 2007, we have handled 24,154 calls. The service demand is doubled between these ten years. Meanwhile, in responding to various needs in the community, our services have been expanded to the suicidal elderly as well as to the survivors of suicides.
To sustain our efforts, we need your generous support. You may either join SPS as a volunteer, or make donations to us. In either case, you are truly making Hong Kong a place of love and a caring community !
